Awesome Oslo: If two days is all you have here is my itinerary. We traveled here in April 2016.
THINGS TO DO:
Day One - Bygdoy Peninsula - 1) Viking Ship Museum Open 10am-4pm
5 minute walk to 2) Norweigan Folk Museum Open 11am-4pm
Day Two - Akershus Fortress/Castle, Walk around Oslo - Oslo Opera House, Royal Palace (only open in the summer)
Viking Ship Museum - Time Allow 1-1 1/2 hrs.
I loved the Viking Ship Museum! Although it is small museum, it is filled with wonders that you really need to take time to appreciate. Of course, the Viking ships are the cornerstone of the museum and you are greeted by the Oseberg ship as you enter (pictured below). The other ships on display are the Tune and the Gokstad. Take time to appreciate the sledges, beds, a horse cart, wood carving, tent components, buckets and other grave goods.

Norweigan Folk Museum - Time Allow 2-3 hours
You will do a lot of walking for this outdoor museum on Norwegian life. We did ours in a misty rain, but still enjoyed it. They have 150 buildings relocated from towns and villages to walk you through the Norwegian culture through time. A 13th century Stave Church (pictured below) is one of the highlights. Do not miss going in the museum on-site here that also houses some beautiful displays.

Akershus Fortress/Castle - Time Allow 2-3 hrs
I am a Castle girl - so I absolutely loved this castle/fortress. It was rainy most of the time we were in Oslo - but don't let that stop you! Grab your umbrella and go! It is thought to have been built around 1290. Filled with tapestries, armour and furnishings.

Oslo's Opera House - A trip to Oslo would not be complete if you didn't walk up on the roof of Oslo's Opera House. Quite windy the day we went, but spectacular!

WHERE TO STAY:
We stayed at the Oslo Citibox Hotel. The rooms are small, but you are not in Oslo to stay in your hotel room! The bathroom floors were heated which was great since when we were there the temperatures were in the 40's (Fahrenheit). Comfortable bedding and great internet access. I would definitely stay here again.
WHERE TO EAT:
Breakfast: Rent Mel - Since we stayed at Citibox hotel we tried the cafe tied to the hotel called Rent Mel. It was awesome! I believe the cinnamon bun I had there was truly the best I have ever had. I can't wait til we travel back to Oslo to go there again! Of course, they have other great options for breakfast (and lunch) as well.
Lunch: Tommi's Burger Joint - Great burgers and fries but don't forget to get the best Vanilla Milkshake EVER!
Dinner: SPLURGE - Fru K - We were there during one of my son's birthday and since he is a foodie (as you will see reflected in our dining options) we splurged on a meal at Fru K (the Thief). It did not disappoint. I loved the tastes and textures - it was definitely a home run in our book.
